H. Gene Murtha is a poet &
Naturalist. Former member of
the Zoning Board and held the second chair of the Environmental Commission for Buena Vista Township. His first book was published in 1988. Gene is the owner of Golden Swamp Warbler press and the founder of the Prothonotary Warbler aka( golden swamp warbler) Society. Membeships include: Pennsylvania poetry Society, Mad Poets Society, the Haiku Society of America, the Virgilio Haiku Association, & Haiku Oz. His poetry has been published around the world and he has won various awards, including Readers Choice. He became interested in Japanese forms and genre in 1999. Gene was
also the former field biologist for Unexpected Wildlife Refuge. Gene also sponsord & judged the first children's haiku contest for the inner city children of Camden, NJ grades 1 thru 12
